Released:  October 17, 2008 - Theft Scam at Wal-Mart & Bi Wise Market

The Concord Police Department is asking the public for their assistance in identifying the suspect(s) in a recent scam of local businesses.

On October 9th at approximately 6:41 pm individuals entered Wal-Mart located on Loudon Road and perpetrated a scam against the business. A Concord Detective assigned to this investigation learned that a suspect attempted to confuse the cashier when making a purchase, while others involved created a distraction. The suspect(s) were successful in obtaining a significant amount of cash from the register.

The scam occurs when a perpetrator attempts to make a small purchase with a large bill. When the cashier opens the register, the cashier is distracted by others involved in the scam. While the cashier is distracted, the individual making the purchase takes money from the open register.  In this instance there appeared to be four individuals working together to perpetrate this theft.  Video surveillance has identified three females and one male of interest.

While investigating this incident the Detective learned that the same suspects had been to the Bi Wise Market in Allenstown earlier in the day and had perpetrated the same scam.  At this location a significant amount of money was also obtained by the suspects. Allenstown Police Department has recovered video surveillance of the suspects involved in the theft at Bi Wise Market.  In the Allenstown incident the suspects are known to have left the area in a grey sedan.

Video surveillance has been recovered from Wal-Mart security and Bi Wise.  The Concord and Allenstown Police Departments are asking the public to assist in identifying four individuals of interest depicted in the footage.  The Wal-Mart photos provided with this release show a male and three females in the store on October 9th at approximately 6:41 pm.  The Bi Wise photos depict three suspects in the store on October 9th at approximately 5:00 pm.
